Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how [[LEGAL_ENTITY]] (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the OurDollar mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this Policy.
OurDollar is a household budgeting tool. It helps you and the people you share money with track income, bills, savings goals, and weekly spending. It is not a bank, does not connect to your bank accounts, and does not move, hold, or transfer money.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide:
- Account information — your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we never see your plain-text password.
- Household and budgeting information you enter — household name; the names and chosen avatars of household members; income sources and amounts; bills; savings goals; transactions and spending you log; and “fun money” allocations. You choose what to enter. This information is financial in nature but is entered by you, not gathered from financial institutions.
- Invitation details — if you invite someone to your household, the email address you enter for them, so we can send the invitation.
- Communication preferences — whether you have opted in to product-update emails.
Information collected automatically:
- Push notification tokens and device platform — if you enable notifications, a device token used to deliver spend alerts and reminders, and whether your device is iOS or Android.
We do not use third-party advertising networks, and we do not embed third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
2. How we use information
We use the information to:
- Provide and operate the Service (store and sync your household’s budget across devices and members);
- Send push notifications you’ve enabled, such as spend alerts and bill reminders;
- Send transactional emails, such as household invitations and account-related messages;
- Send product-update emails only if you have opted in (you can opt out at any time in the app or via the unsubscribe link);
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. How information is shared
Within your household. OurDollar is a shared tool. Information you enter into a household (income, bills, goals, transactions, member names, etc.) is visible to the other members of that household. Only invite people you intend to share this information with.
Service providers (subprocessors). We share information with vendors who process it on our behalf, under contract, solely to provide the Service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and hosting (stores your account and household data).
- Expo — delivery of push notifications.
- Resend — delivery of transactional emails (such as household invitations).
- Apple / Google — app distribution through their app stores, and, if paid features are offered in the future, processing of purchases (we would not receive your full payment card details).
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Payments
The current version of the Service does not charge you and does not collect payment information. If subscriptions or paid features are offered in the future, purchases would be processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play, and those platforms — not us — would handle your payment details, subject to their own privacy policies.
5. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Account → Delete account). Deleting your account permanently removes your account, any households you own and their data (bills, goals, income, transactions, and history), and your push tokens; your membership in households owned by other people is removed. Some information may persist for a limited time in encrypted backups before being overwritten, and we may retain limited records where required by law.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls that restrict each household’s data to its members. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Access and edit most of your information directly in the app;
- Delete your account and its data in the app;
- Opt out of product-update emails in the app or via the unsubscribe link.
To make a rights request, contact us at [[CONTACT_EMAIL]]. We will respond as required by applicable law. If you are in the EU/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA/ CPRA), additional rights may apply, including the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
8. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under [[MIN_AGE]], and children do not create accounts. An adult account holder may add a child to a household as a “fun-money-only” member (a name and allowance), but this does not create an account or a login for that child. If you believe a child has provided us personal information in a way that requires action, contact us at [[CONTACT_EMAIL]].
9. International users
We store and process information on servers located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
